My Infomercial Top 10

On Christmas I was chatting with my brother-in-law and somehow I ended up musing about some infomercials I had seen parts and pieces of.  I’m pretty sure he thought it was sad that I knew what these items were, but I can’t help myself.  The commercials always amuse me or even interest me!

Remembering that I made a post about infomercials last year I did a search and found it HERE.  I thought it was closer to Christmas, but it was actually in August of 2011.  Well, this year is almost over already and I didn’t do a top 10 this year!  What was I thinking?

These are in no particular order, just the top 10 in my book! 🙂   Watch the videos if you have time!

1.  Wax Vac.  We all need clean ears, right?  It’s such a strange thing, but maybe it’s more wonderful than cotton swabs.  I don’t know for sure.

2.  Forever Comfy Cushion.  This is something I might actually find useful.  I find most chairs, couches, and most other seating to be uncomfortable.

3.  Skin Tag Remover.  Nothing really good to say about this one, but the commercial always grosses me out.

4.  Magic Mesh.  It would be great if it would keep stink bugs out.  I hate stink bugs.

5.  Fix A Flop.  Because we all want to repair a $2 pair of flip flops?

6.  Red Fusion Heat Wrap.  I saw something similar to this at the mall a few weeks ago and was seriously close to getting one!  It’s a great idea and they do get really hot!  Would be great for neck and/or back pain or just something to warm up my hands and toes!

7.  The Dog Dicer, only because I was reading reviews for the Huntzler 571 Banana Slicer.  I can’t stop reading and laughing at the reviews for the Banana Slicer – take time to read a few if you need a good laugh!!  I’m not kidding!  The Dog Dicer seems similar to it for some reason. 🙂

8.  Hot Booties.  I have always wanted to put my slippers in the microwave. . .

9.  Brazil Butt Lift.  Always joke with my husband about getting this one.  😉

10.  Olde Brooklyn Lantern.  Something like this would actually be very useful if our lights went out.

There are so many other infomercials out there, but these are ones that have made my top 10.

New Stove

Eric and I bought our first stove back in March of 1999 when we moved into a rental home, it wasn’t a new one.  It has been with all this time . . . until Saturday, when it decided to burn out an element.  It was pretty freaky to see the oven glowing inside, even after I turned it off.  It wasn’t until I unplugged it that the glowing finally stopped.  Last year we had oven issues around this time of year, had to replace the thermal gauge inside the oven.  It would burn the tops of whatever I was cooking and everything else wasn’t done cooking yet.  Anyway, it was a mess, but Eric fixed it.  He’s handy like that!  🙂  Some time  during the past year one of my burners on the top quit working, so I only had 3 burners and even they weren’t the best.

After Saturday’s oven glowing experience, we decided we’d go oven shopping.  Nothing like having to do this before the holidays!  But it was time and I was ready for  a new oven!  Saturday, Sunday and Monday were interesting cooking days since I didn’t have burners to even use.  I used a crock pot, griddle (it is part of this awesome waffle iron that I got many years ago), and microwave a little bit.  I hate microwave cooking, I really do.

Yesterday our new stove came and they hauled our old one away!  Set up the new stove and there it was . . . all nice and shiny, just staring at me.  I stared back at it.  To be honest, I was afraid of it! LOL  I’ve never had or used a brand new stove, so it was a little intimidating!

Anyway, here are pictures of my new stove and some of the things I’ve baked in it already! 🙂

It’s so nice and shiny!  I LOVE it!  It got a lot of use yesterday, its first day in our home!

The inside of the oven before I used it.  Then coconut macaroons are the first batch of cookies I made for my husband.  Not pictured are chocolate chip cookies I made for the kids and a butternut squash that I baked.  And then there are the pictures of the Gluten-Free/Grain-Free Almond Scones.  I was drooling and couldn’t wait for these things to finish baking!

The finished scones!  They are SO very good!  I ate a couple last night and one for breakfast this morning!

The picture of my arm is showing a boo boo I got from my new oven.  I burned it on the top rack putting something in yesterday.  Silly me!

Anyway, it has been so fun to have a new stove/oven!

Not sure what I’m going to make with it today, but I want to try out the convection part of the oven.

I have a chicken I want to throw in there – not one that is walking around my yard though. . .

PS.  My shiny appliances are waiting for their new kitchen to come . . . some day! 🙂

5 Things That Excite You!

5 Things Series..

This time let’s do 5 things that EXCITE you!
Joining Kimmie  again at Over the Moon with Joy
1.  Time with God!
2.  Spending time with my family – special dates with hubby and
going places with all of us!
3.  Learning about and practicing photography
4.  New Homeschool Curriculum! 🙂
5.  Running . . .with a friend is much nicer than alone! 🙂

This and That

We think this is a neighbor’s kitty.
It likes to come up the driveway, but keeps its distance from us.
It did catch a chipmunk the other day, so I don’t mind the visits.
This mole ended up having seizures and died.
This has happened twice now.
In fact, I tossed one down in the woods yesterday (still alive) and found
a dead one on top of the grass this morning.
They are destroying our front yard.   I’m not sad when they die.

Last Friday evening we played Capture the Flag.
Since we have 500 Nerf guns, we used them to “tag” the other
team.  If you got hit with a nerf bullet you had to go back
and touch your base.  Then you could continue playing.
Eric took this picture of me.
Yes, I am a frumpy mess.  Socks and sandals even!
It was a fun game!
The kids talked about it (the game, not my frumpiness) the next day, too.
Eric took this shot of Ryan.
It’s a great shot!
 Lovin’ the baby Guineas.
 They really are adorable!
We enjoy them a lot, so far. 🙂
Yesterday we had smoke coming from the transformer.
I called the power company because I didn’t want anything crazy happening.
They came and trimmed the tree branches away from it and put my mind at ease.
Whew!
I got my first set of Fiesta dishes!  They are SO pretty and I can’t wait
to get more!  My husband is all about buying American these days, and these
are indeed made in America.  You can get these at several different stores.
Mine are from Kohl’s.  You can also order them from their site:
I’m excited about the flamingo color, but it’s not at the store yet.
Pink is one of my favorite colors.
This week has been extremely busy.  Getting the kids ready for camp
sure is a lot of work.  They are excited about going for a whole week.
I’m glad they are excited, but can you believe I miss them a little already
and they haven’t even left yet!   They’ll have a great time, they always do. 🙂
Running has been going well.  I ran around our yard Wednesday.
2 miles = roughly 36 laps.  I did end up turning my left ankle a little
on one of the mole messes.  Today I took to the road for a mile.  Didn’t want
to overwork the sore ankle.  It really was a hard mile to run today, but I did it.
Eric has been keeping very busy at work!  His new position as supervisior
is very different than his other position (team leader or something like that), but
he seems to be liking the change of pace.
Also this week I started studying 1 Corinthians 13 with a Bible Study I
ordered for my kindle from Focused 15 Bible Studies.
Very good study so far!  It’s to help ME be able to study for myself.
Not that I don’t know how, but sometimes I just need a refresher.
This week the kids and I learned Psalm 128:1. “Blessed is everyone that feareth
the Lord;  that walketh in his way.”
Last week we learned Jeremiah 33:3.    I’ll work on something
next week, even while the kids are away at camp.

Youth Field Day 2012

 Learning about bees and beekeeping.

Tug of war was so fun to watch!
I love how the adults got in on it with the kids.
Eric even got a grass stain on his pants!
Unfortunately this team lost both times.

Grace was having a great Stylin’ Saturday.
Totally using this picture to link up this week with

There were lots of Strobel winners this year!
My 3 and then 3 more from Eric’s family that were there, too.
We always have a great day, but it’s very long.
Very Long Day!
7:30am until after 4pm this year.
But it’s worth it to see my kid’s smiling faces!

Recent Happenings

Have you ever had about 5,000 things you want to write about, and because you don’t know where to begin you just don’t do it?  That’s what has been going on with me lately.  I’m not quite sure where to start.

Life has been full lately.  Very full!

Our official last day of school was May 23rd.  We (especially myself) are SOOO glad to be finished!  Technically the kids still have some work in some books they have and will finish them over the summer.  We’ll save those for really rainy days or really really hot days.  Next is getting their portfolios put together and having their evaluations next Tuesday.  I need to get on that soon!

Last Saturday was the start to a very busy, but wonderful weekend!  We’ve had blueberry bushes for YEARS, but nothing has ever grown on them.  They are only just getting big enough really.  Maybe next year.  They are not pictured today.  However, last Saturday we went to a local farm and bought 4 blueberry bushes and 2 of them already have blueberries on them!  I am SO excited! 🙂

They are now covered with mosquito net and it keeps the chickens and other birds from eating them.

The only bad thing is the chickens like eating the organic acid balancer stuff we put around the plants.  Silly chickens!  They don’t seem bothered by it and it’s hard to keep them out of it.
Before we planted the blueberry bushes we went out and did some running around to some local home stores looking for things we might need for some projects at home.  We didn’t get much, but we did enjoy some ice cream on the way home!
Sunday we decided to go north to Lake Erie.  It was very hot when we left our house that day.  It stayed hot and sunny for quite a while, but the more north we went the clouds got thicker and darker.

We continued on our journey anyway and thought we might drive out of the storms, but we did not.  It was a little sad at first, but Eric got the idea of going to Splash Lagoon.  Let me tell you, I enjoyed Splash Lagoon way more than I would have enjoyed the lake.  I just always cringe at swimming in the dirty water with all those fishy creatures.  My favorite part of Splash Lagoon is the Wave Pool.  I laughed hysterically like a kid getting pushed around by the waves.  So much fun!  Being that we swam and enjoyed the water slides I didn’t get any pictures.  I was worried about taking my camera in there.  It was hot and humid and the locker wouldn’t have had room for my camera anyway. 🙂

While riding north we always pass this place and it always reminds me of the Dead Marshes from the Lord of the Rings movies.  I actually got a pretty good picture of them on Sunday!

On Monday, Memorial Day, we went to our town’s parade.  We always enjoy going!  Love watching the Veterans that sacrificed for our country, fire trucks, old cars, tractors, and the kids scrambling for candy that is thrown all over the place!

Grace’s candy pile and t-shirt.
Other highlights from this week . . .
Tuesday my brother and kiddos stopped by to get some eggs.  It was so nice to see him and talk to him for a while!  We’re both quite busy and don’t get to talk much.  In the afternoon I helped Rose spring clean the last 2 rooms of her house.  We have been working on 2 rooms each week.  I’m sure she appreciates it and she always gets right in on the cleaning!  🙂  I also went for a 1 mile run that day.
Wednesday was busy, but I can’t remember why. .  . 🙂  Oh wait . . . I got a haircut!  My hair is like a straw factory.  I’m still letting my hair grow out to its natural gray color.  It’s always amazing how SLOW it seems to grow now that I’m not coloring it.  While keeping it blond it always seemed to grow SO fast and was hard to keep up with it.
Thursday I ran 2 miles in the morning, finished my menu/grocery list, and then went shopping in the afternoon.  It was a very busy day! Took a long time to get everything cleaned up and put away.
Friday, that’s today! It wasn’t that today was really busy.  I went to a friend’s house.  She asked if I could feed her ducks while her family is away on vacation, so she was showing me where to feed them and all that.  Ducks are so cute how they waddle around. If we had a pond or something here I would get a couple.
Before she showed me around we had the most amazing conversation!   She is a woman that loves the Lord and has such a heart for others.  We talked and prayed and I cried my eyes out.   I just love her and am so thankful God brought our paths together.
Sometimes when someone talks, you just can feel the Lord speaking to you through them.  It happens from time to time – at least it has for me.  That’s how it was today.   We talked of some personal matters that are near to our hearts and how God already knows the outcome to these situations.  She shared an incredible story of how God has moved in her heart and life and how He’s brought healing to her hurt heart.  I have much to think about and pray about and open my heart to God and His Word.
You can read the Word and pray thoughtlessly.  I’ve done it SO many times.  It’s shameful and sad.  God just wants to talk to me and to listen to me and I’m pretty sure He wants me to just be still and know that He is God.  He has so much work to do in my heart.
On another Bible topic, my friend Cindy and I FINISHED memorizing and reciting the book of Colossians today!  We’re looking forward to starting James in a month or two here!  I LOVE the book of James, and she and I are both drawn to this book, so it’ll be great to memorize with someone!  Over the summer I’ll be learning verses with my kids (at least that’s the plan) .  I downloaded them from Seeds Family Worship.  That site is full of wonderful things!
God bless you all that have stuck with this crazy, long post! 🙂
Love,
Emily
PS.  I have to end this by mentioning that I FINALLY bought a new lens for my camera!  I’m super excited and can hardly wait until my 55-300mm lens gets here!  Yay!

Week in Review

The other evening Eric and I went and bought our
raw milk out at the Le-Ara Wilson Farms
This stuff is so good!  If you look close enough you can
see the cream separated from the milk.
I’m not really a milk drinker, but I do love this stuff.
This madness is my Pioneer Woman Cookbook,
Menu and Grocery Lists.  I was working on the
grocery list part here.
Fun times.
Even more fun is shopping for it all.
But I am ever so thankful we can shop for the things we need.
Grace did this, so I took a few pictures of it.
Her and her creation! 🙂
Last night we played jacks for a long time.
I am not a fan of big plastic jacks. They are hard to use!
I’m seeing a set or two of metal jacks in the near future.
Then let the games really begin!
The big jacks are good for learning the eye/hand coordination
that you do need to play jacks.
The hard part of playing is our floor.  It’s crazy design makes me dizzy! 🙂
Today we finished up week 33.
Some days are longer than others, but all in all school is finishing up well.
The kids are doing pretty good with what they have left.
Ryan should finish up his math next week – except for his final test.
Yay! 🙂
Then I think we’re going to do some field trips for the last days of school.
As well as work on writing and other projects.
This has been another week of no sicknesses, too.
I am so thankful for that.
God is good.
Amen.
