Wednesday morning Grace woke up not feeling well. We pressed on and did the important school stuff Wednesday. The boys were fine and did their work as usual.
Thursday morning (early, 5:30 am) Nathan woke with a fever. Ryan did his work for the day (except music), Grace and Nathan didn’t do school work, but we all did our morning Bible class. We’ve been studying Knowledge this week (in Wisdom’s House for Kidz) and the story of Daniel (Belteshazzar), Hananiah (Shadrach), Mishael (Meshach), and Azariah (Abednego). They were fascinated that their names were changed to Chaldean names and decided they wouldn’t like someone telling them they have new names. The connection between these Bible characters and Knowledge is that they knew God and knew what He wanted them to do, even if it wasn’t what everyone else was doing. The example was in the foods they ate (vegetables and water) compared to the foods the rest of the prisoners ate (the king’s meat and wine, etc) and the differences in their appearances from everyone else’s.
Friday. We did it! Even after a very late night last night and not sticking to our normal school schedule we were done before noon. Very good! Ryan started lesson 15 in his Beta Math U See. Grace has one more lesson in 14 and Nathan will finish up 17 on Monday. I’m pleased with what they’re doing in their Math this year! Grammar, for the boys, ugh! lol Some days they like it, most days they hate it. “Why do we have to learn this?” I tell them they need to learn it so they can speak and write properly (and I know I am not the best when it comes to writing and Grammar!). I’m hoping as they learn, I continue to learn. One of the beauties of homeschooling!
Spelling test day for all 3 today. Nathan got a 100% on his test. Ryan missed 6 out of 20, so we will be working on these 6 words and adding 10 more next week. Grace missed 3 out of 20. We just review the missed words and start learning new ones so no one gets bored.
Science. The boys finished up their study on friction from earlier this week. They enjoyed the experiment for this study. Basically a ramp, carpet, measuring tape, toy car, smooth floor. They got to see how the carpet slowed down the car and how far the car goes on a smooth surface. How friction is involved in stopping the moving car. It was a good and fun lesson!
We didn’t read anything out of God’s World News magazine today. I figured if we finished the basics we’d be done for the weekend.
Now I’m not feeling well, so I’m going to get a little sleep shortly! Thank the Lord for weekends!
